How to Boost your Energy

I believe that every human being has access to endless motivations, inspiration and positivity. We all have something that we really love doing. I mean really looooove doing. Something that lights us up, fills us with passion. It’s different for everyone but it is always powered by the same thing and that is LOVE. Doing something we love always boosts our energy levels. Like a superpower.
It’s always worth asking yourself the following questions:
Do I really love doing this?
Do I love it or is it something that’s expected of me?
Am I making myself happy by doing this, or does it make someone else happy?
Am I doing this just to be loved?
If any of these questions cause you to say: “wait a minute!”, there is a good chance you will be drained of energy instead of motivated and inspired.
I consider it a superpower to be able to get 100% clear on what I love doing and what I don’t love doing. Obviously, we all have to do things here and there that we don’t love, like taxes, dishes and cleaning the toilet. Nevertheless it helps a lot to be clear on the emotions about any action we take. It is not only helpful for ourselves but also to others. Who knows, maybe something you hate doing is actually somebody else’s joy.
So how do we get to that clarity and tap into more motivation and inspiration?
The answer is very simple; by being more present. For me, practicing yoga and mindfulness meditation has taught me how to be more aware of the things that I truly love doing. It helps me catch and navigate my thoughts and feelings, especially the unhelpful ones. You know, all that stuff the little devil on your shoulder comes up with. All the thoughts that are triggered by an outside influence, like dressing a certain way or engaging in 'trendy' activities.
Over time, I have learned to be more present; to wield my superpower and pat that little devil on the head, thank him for his input and then turn my attention over to the little fairy sitting on the other shoulder who motivates and inspires me. Listening to the real and uncensored me. Yoga and meditation gave me the superpower to find my way back to a positive, motivated and inspired state of mind and allowed me to follow the trail of doing things that I love.
I am convinced that this can work for anyone and that the world can be a better place if we all manage to spend a little more time doing what we love and follow our dreams, even if just as a hobby. We all benefit from reecharging from our daily chores and tapping into our very own superpower.
But what about all the stuff that has to be done? Work, taxes, dirty diapers etc…
You know exactly what to do when you:
need some cheering up
need a little boost in the mood department
and if so, then having a bad day or having your plans spoiled by unforeseen circumstances is only half as devastating because you know there is something you can turn to that will lift you up. Now I’m not talking about eating, drinking or taking any other substances. I literally mean doing, as in an ACTIVITY.
For me, dancing is one of the things in my life that will always cheer me up, make me feel good and recharge my batteries so I can tackle my least favourite chores. It is my little doorway to paradise. I am helplessly in love with all forms of dance and if you use the word 'dance' in a conversation with me, you will always have my undivided attention.
Coming in as a close second in the cheering up and comforting department for me, is drawing. I reach for my sketchbook and pencil when I’m in need of comfort. Drawing the world around me and appreciating its beauty or creating my own world fills me with endless joy. Creating on the page gives me a sense of control when life plays its ever changing game. Stepping out of that cycle for even just a few minutes and turning into a creator rather than an observer, feels like a superpower to me. I naturally turn to dance or art to process my emotions and slowly navigate from negative to positive.
Our built-in navigation system
All humans come equipped with a cool tool called “emotions” and they never lie. All we have to do is trust them and act accordingly. The biggest problem is that we tend to not listen to these emotions for all kinds of reasons and I think that can make us poorly. Especially if we get caught in a loop of negative emotions. Navigating these negative and unhelpful emotions is like training a muscle. The more practice we get in directing attention away from unhelpful thoughts to the things we love doing to boost our energy, the more natural and easy it gets.
I believe all humans can tap into more energy through doing more of what they love and lead a happy, fulfilled and peaceful life. If dancing, yoga or drawing are things that light you up, then lets connect!
You can book a dance or yoga class with me here and learn how to draw with me here.
I hope you’ll start a new hobby that makes you happy soon!

PS. In case you were wondering. YES, I love Super Heroes and I’m a huge Marvel and Disney fan. The stories and characters are inspiring and motivating for me so I bring them into my life wherever and whenever I can.
